Chardonnay Quercus 2008 - the "white champion"
Dobrovo, 27th July 2009

At the 35th National Open Wine Competition, the so-called "Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona", Chardonnay Quercus 2008 became the champion among dry white wines, and thus the "Goriška Brda" Wine Cellar has accomplished its proudest achievements of the recent years. Also other "Goriška Brda" wines excelled and were thus attained the highest grades. Cabernet Sauvignon Bagueri 2006 was awarded the Great Gold Medal, while gold medals were awarded to Merlot Bagueri 2005 and 2006, Grey Pinot Bagueri 2008, Cabernet Sauvignon Quercus 2007, White Pinot Quercus 2008, Markiz 2006 and Pikolit 2007.

The "Goriška Brda" Wine Cellar is particularly proud of the fact that the Slovenian champion - Chardonnay Quercus 2008 - has also been awarded with the highest accolades abroad too, namely right in the Chardonnay homeland - in the French region of Burgundy, which is where this wine was awarded a Silver Medal at this year's prestige Chardonnay du Monde Wine Competition.

The award-winning characteristics of Chardonnay Quercus 2008, which won over the jury in France as well as in Slovenia, were commented on by Darinko Ribolica, an enologist from the "Goriška Brda" Wine Cellar, as follows: "Even though we are talking about a worldwide variety, Chardonnay Quercus 2008 clearly expresses the Goriška Brda origin. Its outstanding characteristics consist of a determined temperament, which is well-known thanks to its distinguishing fruity bouquet as well as pleasant freshness. This is a harmonious, an elegant wine. Its scent has fruity notes and is reminiscent of apple, melon, peach and pineapple. Smooth in your mouth, this is a full-bodied and pleasantly warm wine. The rich, velvety flavours linger just long enough on the palette to appreciate them to their fullest."

The National Open Wine Competition, "Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona," which took place from 20th to 24th July, is the most important wine judging in Slovenia, where a 24-member jury judged 766 wine samples. Attaining those certificates and gold medals rewards, the Wine Cellar for its committed efforts to strive for reach and maintain the highest standards, for the customer they are guaranteed that, by choosing Goriška Brda wines, they are getting the top quality wines of Slovene origin which are known and praised all over the world.
